Boy I Hope the Religious Right Does Not Get Into Peyote

To be honest with you, the so called Religious Right in America tends to scare me. Now I know that there are lots of "Religious Right" churches and many of them differ on what they believe, but I would say that all of them want the United States to be known as a Christian Country.

That scares me, because even though I am a Christian, I don't want my Country to be a strictly Christian country and that is where the Peyote comes into play.

Right now there are many Christian Churches, who will tell you that all abortion is wrong, but there are many Christian Churches who will tell you that any abortion is a woman's choice or only in some cases (Like rape or incest) abortion is a woman's choice. Who is right? I don't know.

There are several churches in America who believe that it is not only their right to take Peyote, but that it is also good for you to take it. Some of these "takers" claim to be Christians. In 1960, Judge Yale McFate, ruled that Native Americans were guaranteed access to the Peyote sacrament under the First and Fourteenth amendment rights.

Peyote, actually mescaline, is a hallucinogenic drug which the courts say can be used by members of a church. To me that is fine. Let those people who believe that, take Peyote. I say that because they are not asking for a law that says that everybody must take Peyote, only those who believe in using it. Peyote is considered to be divine by Indians, it is said to be a messenger that allows the faithful to communicate with God without the need of a priest.

Hey, I feel the same way, only I use prayer instead of Peyote.

What scares me about the Religious Right is that they don't want laws to protect their beliefs, like those Native Americans wanted protection so they could take Peyote. No, the Religious Right, want laws so that everyone in the United States has to believe like they do. They want their Church law to become American law.

That is why America today, is so divided. We have one large "Christian" group that wants to impose their beliefs on everyone else. They want federal tax dollars so they can teach their kids, they want to stop all abortions, and they want more tax dollars so the can have the funds needed to go out and get new members. They want United States Law to Mirror "Their" church law.

I don't buy that. I think that will destroy the "Land of the Free".
