The United States Needs at Least Two Parties Again

I do this every so often, usually when I clear off my desk. I find notes about different things that I was going to write about, but either I couldn't find enough information or something big happened for a couple of days and these got lost in the pile.

First off I think it would be nice if the United States would go back to a two party or even a three or four party system. With the Democrats trying so hard to be loved by all and in the process adopting everything the Republicans want, we have lost that "Loyal Opposition" we need.

George Bush nominated Alberto Gonzales to be the new Attorney General. This is the man who told our government that the Geneva Convention was a quaint set of rules that we no longer had to follow and we didn't. That is why we saw and more important, the world saw how we tortured prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Cuba, worse than that, we used sexual humiliation which every guy in the world was upset about. I would certainly hate to be the next American soldier captured any place on this globe.

So what do the Democrats have to say about this nomination? Well they say they have "serious concerns," and "grave concerns," and how about, "deep reservations." Of course they treated Mr. Gonzales like he was already in. They came right out and said that they liked the guy.

This is the guy that OKed torture and because of that many Iraqis and Afghans have died in our custody. We used shock treatment. We held people under water until they almost drowned, we burned them with cigarettes, we beat them to death, and we chained them to the floor for hours and hours, so that they had to urinate and defecate on themselves. Congress got to see all the horrible pictures that were too terrible for the American people to see, and they treated this MONSTER, Gonzales like he was some sort of honest man, because when talking to the Senate Committee he repudiated his own memo, in that memo he told the President that he could ignore both international law and domestic anti-torture statutes.

The Democrats on the committee never even got upset. So we need a new party to stand up for American honesty, American law, and the American sense of what is right. The Democrats have sold their soul for votes because Mr. Gonzales is Hispanic and they don't want to lose any more Hispanic votes. Mr. Gonzales is a Monster Hispanic. There can be White, Black, Brown, Yellow, and Red monsters, just like there can be Saints, but not if it might cost votes for one party. Then a person can do anything and at least the Democrats will fall all over themselves to look like they like that particular race, because all they think about now are potential votes. Sad huh?

In this same vain, there was a headline I wrote down, "Iraqi Victim says US torture worse than Saddam" That is the Problem, because of Alberto Gonzales and George Bush, America will now be compared to Saddam Hussein and the likes of him. We are no longer the "good guys." For decades people are going to remember the photos showing American torture policy. People have stories about Saddam's torture, but they have photos of ours. Our next Attorney General, if it is Alberto Gonzales, will be a man who really betrayed our country and hurt it for years to come.

Another headline that caught my eye. "US Search for Weapons of Mass Destruction is Over" Of course George Bush is telling the nation even though there were no WMDs in Iraq, the attack on Iraq was worth it. I really doubt if Bush has any idea of what the deaths and maiming of over 10,000 Americans and tens of thousands of Iraqis has cost their loved ones. This war was based on either false information or a lie. Either way, it was a crime.

Headline: "US Trade Deficit Hit Highest Figure Ever in November, $60.3 billion" America is hurting. Sure International Corporations, Corporations that used to be American, are doing great, but they are really hurting our future.

The Bush administration keeps telling us that things are going great in the American economy and that may be true for the rich in this country, but today's headline in the Minneapolis Tribune speaks volumes. "Food shelf 'running on empty'"

Sure the rich and those that make money in any war are feeling great, but the truth is, those at the bottom are hurting and Washington can't see it, just like they can't see how this war is hurting the families of those who gave so much because they believed George Bush, when he told us that Iraq could attack us with Weapons of Mass Destruction. Over 1350 Americans dead and over 10,000 wounded. Men and women who heard their Nation's call to arms. More and more will die and be maimed so that George Bush can somehow claim victory, where there is only suffering.
