Don't Be Fooled, Gay Marriage is a Red Herring

This week in the small northern Minnesota town of Grand Rapids, the State Legislature's Committee on Civil Law and Elections will hold hearings to see if people up here want a Constitutional Amendment on Marriage. One that says it must include one man and one woman.

This has become a burning issue all over America. Our Nation is at war, in many places in America we have terrible race relations, we have more people in Prisons here than any place else in the world, we have tens of thousands of homeless citizens, we have over 40 million without health insurance, we have a reported 8,000 illegal aliens sneaking into our country each and every night of the year, and they are joining the reported 12 million "illegals" here already and we are worried about Gay Marriages.

George Bush is making a big push so that mercury emissions from power plants can triple and cleanup of those plants can be put off for another decade and when they do clean up, they will clean up to a lower standard than they would have pre-George Bush. Is George Bush or the media talking about this? No they are talking about Gay Marriage.

Our Congress in Washington is talking about what to do with the Sunset clauses in the PATRIOT ACT and we should all be informed about that, but Gay Marriage keeps getting the coverage.

Politicians always have things to keep us off subject. If we agree with them on this marriage amendment and then ask them a hard question about our Rights, they will switch the topic to terrorism or the old stand bye of Abortion.

Abortion has served Republicans and many Democrats for years and years. Of course nothing gets done about it or they would lose the "fight" they are waging for their followers. Some day those followers are going to wake up and realize politicians use Abortion as a Red Herring too and it works so well that they will never really stand up and have a vote on it, because they would then lose the best topic they can feint with.

Have you ever wondered how much money has been given to State and National politicians by those on one side of Roe vs. Wade or the other?

For decades some of our politicians have been saying, this term is important for the unburned, so send me back to Washington and I will get things done! Yeah right. They are not about to do anything and that is why we are talking about Gay Marriage right now.

People who are pro-life go nuts about abortion and the politicians are getting heat from them to get something done, and really they can't, because something like 63% of American voters are pro-choice. They can do something about Gay Marriage though, and that is the bone they are going to throw to the pro-life movement that has paid for their campaigns for years.

All you have to realize is that the Republicans, who have a pro-life plank in their party platform, control the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, but they are doing nothing on abortion and George Bush is telling those people to be patient. Those people should remember that those four years go by fast and sure they might want this Marriage Amendment, but that is not why they worked all these years to give the government to the Republican Party.

Yes, the people in Northern Minnesota will tell that Legislative Committee that they want a ban on Gay Marriage and those politicians will go back to Saint Paul patting themselves on the back about how they are the watch dogs for America's Moral and Family Values, but the whole topic is a sham. They use divisive things like this so that they can say they did something, while at the same time there are little children living on the streets of Minnesota in the winter. There are people all over the State taking low paying jobs, who can't even speak English and we wonder why they won't raise the Minimum Wage so that American Citizens can make a living, working those jobs. Politicians will keep some hot topic issue like Gay Marriage in front of voters so that they don't have to deal with the real problems facing America.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. We should all be ashamed.
