Money, Where is it Taking Us?

Scott Klinger writes, "The chasm between rich and poor is not a divide between who has intelligence and drive and who does not. Rather it results from a society whose rules allow some to amass wealth greater than could be enjoyed in a thousand lifetimes while they deny others enough money to scrape through just one lifetime."

Now remember we claim to the world that we are a Christian country and because we are, we want to bring the beliefs of our nation to the world and President Bush claims that that is why we attacked Iraq. So that we could bring our secular ideas of freedom and democracy, that spring from our Christian beliefs, to the poor people of Iraq.

Jesus Christ tells us, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is your heart will be also."

Here in America we claim to be Christian, but our real god is Money.

Wal-Mart is the world's largest private employer and five members of the family that owns it, the Walton family, are in the top twenty richest people in the world. Many of the workers at their stores make such poor wages, that they qualify for food stamps, heating fuel assistance, and their health care comes from Uncle Sam.

According to "Responsible Wealth, "Corporate taxes as a percentage of the US economy have shrunk from 4.1 percent of Gross Domestic Product in 1965 to just 1.5 percent in 2002.

Washington is doing everything it can to lower the taxes of the rich in America which causes the divide between haves and have-nots to increase. Now the lawmakers are taking away the protection from poor Americans who claim bankruptcy, while keeping the loophole called "asset protection trust," which is used by the rich to protect their wealth, while doing the same.

Time magazine reports that almost half of the worlds 6 billion people are poor and that over one billion (1,000.000.000) live on less that one dollar a day. Right here in America the number of citizens who fall into the Poor category is rising. The number of poor children rose by 6.6 percent in 2003.

Still we tell the world that our nation is Christian and that we worship Jesus Christ and follow his teachings. Even President Bush makes this claim.

Jesus Christ said, "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

He also said, "I will tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I will tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

George Bush and our government in Washington is doing everything they can to allow a small group of Americans to grow wealthy beyond belief and at the same time they are condemning these people eternity without God.

The question we should all ask, Money or Jesus? Jesus told us it can't be both, so just where is George Bush taking this nation?
