Equal Justice?

What are the chances of your or my getting a pardon from George Bush if we perjured ourselves before a Grand Jury? Did you notice that Scooter Libby, walked out of the Courthouse with his attorney talking about a new trail or an appeal? If that had been you or I, they would have taken us away right then and there. There is no equal justice in America. If you have enough money you can get out of almost anything. Remember how Ken Lay, died after his conviction? Well he got out of going to jail, but on top of that, somehow his family got to keep all the millions he stole from the poor working stiffs he cheated. If that had been you or I, they would have taken everything we had, before we went to trial. Then if we did kick, they would have already had whatever we had. People with enough money can even get away with murder, and it doesn't matter if you are black, white, yellow, or red. What matters is that you have enough green. Even if you are convicted, if you have enough money, you can do your time at a prison without bars, one that has exercise yards, and I hear tell, some that even have tennis courts. If you don't have money, then you will be sent to a real hell-hole, where you have to worry about being raped, and for sure your best bet is to join up with the prison gang of your choice, but you will have to pay your dues to get in, and prison gang dues are a price to pay. If you don't have any money to speak of, then you have to hope and pray that you are able to take the fall for the guy who really did the crime. With no money, it doesn't matter if you are guilty or not, you are going to lose, but if you can work out a deal where you take the fall for someone who does have money and hopefully power, you might just get a break. Scooter was very lucky. He didn't really have much in the way of riches, but he could cover for Dick Cheney. Dick has a lot of money and a lot of power. So, don't feel bad for the Scooster. If he has to do time, it will be in a soft place, and he will be rewarded when he gets out, and his family will be taken care of. Either that, or George Bush will give him a Presidential pardon, and he will walk. He won't be the first criminal that a President named Bush pardoned. George's dad let off many in the Iran-Contra scandal. Here Scooter got caught in a lie. George's dad was letting off people giving arms to terrorists. Scooter is small potatoes. So, if you are poor or even middle class in America, your best bet is to walk the straight and narrow, keep your nose clean, and stay out of trouble. |
