When Presidents Lie
by James Glaser

When President Bush first came to Washington there was a lot of hope in the country that we were finally getting an honest man for our President. After all, the man claimed to be a Christian, and he was not afraid to talk about his faith and how he trusted in the Lord. He actually talked about prayer, and how that was a big part of his life.

Now, here we are over six years later and we wonder if the man ever told us the truth about anything. It is pretty easy to see that all of his talk of being a Christian was just that. . . talk. We now know he might pray and hear voices he thinks are God, but I'm confident he isn't praying to or hearing from the God I pray to. In fact I feel pretty strongly that George Bush is talking to and hearing from Satan. He would not be the first leader in history who was controlled by the Devil.

This last week President Bush was giving a speech at the Navel War College, and it is reported that he mentioned al Qaeda 27 times while talking about his war in Iraq. George is now trying to make that war, a United States against al Qaeda affair.

First off, George's war in Iraq was all about destroying Saddam's Weapons of Mass Destruction, and when we found those weapons did not exist, it became a war for regime change. After we hung Saddam, we changed our reason for fighting, to a fight for democracy and to bring freedom to the Iraqi people.

Now the people of United States have decided the lives of our troops are more important than trying to force our brand of government on the Iraqi people, so George Bush is trying to change our reason for being there once again. This time he is claiming it is a fight between us and those who attacked us on 9/11.

Generals in the field and our intelligence people have been telling us that al Qaeda is only a small part of the insurgency that is fighting us. They also tell us that al Qaeda didn't get to Iraq until George Bush attacked the place, and here is the kicker, our military claims that the al Qaeda in Iraq is different than the al Qaeda that attacked us on 9/11. Osama bin Laden, Remember him? Well, according to to our military and intelligence people, Osama does not control the al Qaeda in Iraq.

This deal with saying we are fighting al Qaeda in Iraq is kind of like how George Bush tried so hard to tie Saddam Hussein in with the attack on 9/11. We now know that was not true, even the President now admits that, but back before George Bush had us attack Iraq, he and his administration pushed that story every way they could. Forty some percent of America still believes that lie.

Like that lie about Saddam and al Qaeda, this new lie about how it is us against al Qaeda in Iraq will have many Americans believing this one too. Here is how it works. George Bush and his people repeat the same lie over and over again, and our media keeps repeating it too. After a while it is assumed that the lie is a fact, until the rest of the world says, "no way," and our media is forced to tell us the truth.

President Bush will probably lie until his last day in office, and then he will lie about his time in office. Like his every lie to the American people, George Bush tells the same lie over and over again, and soon he starts to believe it too. Back home we would call that, 'believing your own bull shit."
