Somebody Needs To Be Fired!

Eight American troops were killed in one battle this past weekend in Afghanistan. Washington isn't telling us how many were wounded, but they did tell us something.

The fighting lasted about 12 hours, with the militants firing down on the joint U.S.-Afghan outpost from ridgelines above the base, a senior U.S. military official with direct knowledge of the first reports told CNN.

So, here we have a senior U.S. military official telling us that our base was on the low ground, and the enemy had the high ground from where they could shoot down on our troops.

Even people who have only seen Hollywood movies know you don't give the high ground to the enemy, nor do you build your base at the bottom of the hill. Whoever was commanding these troops should be court marshaled for allowing our troops to be put in this position.

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) — Hundreds of militants attacked American and Afghan troops in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, opening fire on an outpost from multiple locations with rockets, mortars and heavy-caliber machine guns, according to an initial U.S. military report on the battle.

If you are the commanding officer and are given a base at the bottom of a hill, at the very least you have some of your troops up at the top of the hill to warn you of any enemy activity. Somehow hundreds of the enemy were allowed to take a position above our base. That is totally unacceptable.

I can think of no reason that these troops should have been in the position they were in, and the fact that hundreds of enemy troops could sneak up and start a battle tells me that our troops died needlessly, and somebody should be fired.

Of course the Pentagon takes care of its own, so you can see a "cover up" coming all the way from here in the States.
