It Sounds Pretty Last Minute To Me
But He Knows What He Is Doing

It took President Obama months and months to decide if he wanted to add a troop surge to his war in Afghanistan, but it took only a week to come up with a domestic spending freeze.

Once Obama lost his 60 vote majority in the Senate with a Republican winning the special election in Massachusetts, he had to come up with something to make Americans believe he was working on getting spending under control. So, what better way to show economic concern than to freeze spending here at home, because you know he won't freeze spending on the defense industry's cash cow, the War on Terrorism.

The New York Times reports it this way:

WASHINGTON — President Obama will call for a three-year freeze in spending on many domestic programs, and for increases no greater than inflation after that, an initiative intended to signal his seriousness about cutting the budget deficit, administration officials said Monday.

So, who gets the cuts and who is safe:

The freeze would cover the agencies and programs for which Congress allocates specific budgets each year, from air traffic control and farm subsidies to education, nutrition and national parks.

But it would exempt the budgets for the Pentagon, foreign aid, the Veterans Administration and homeland security, as well as the entitlement programs that make up the biggest and fastest-growing part of the federal budget: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

President Obama had to come up with something fast, and the domestic programs he is freezing give little if any in campaign donations, but the Merchants of Death who make all the profits from our wars know how to fund the people who can keep their profits soaring.

President Obama knows what he is doing.
