Too Hot

It is even too hot for writing. Sure it is air conditioned in the house, but I've been working outside, and as the saying goes, I'm fried. It has been a pretty steady 94 to 96 every day with at least 75% humidity. Some days the humidity is in the high 90's. It's like Wanda always says, "It's really not the heat; it really IS the humidity."

A friend gave me some heirloom tomato plants for fall planting along with a couple of sweet peppers. I have been putting off garden clean up until it cools down a bit, but today I spent a few hours cleaning out one section.

I got down on my hands and knees. Pulled all the weeds, cut off the old tomato plants, dug up their roots, and used the "Garden Claw" to loosen up the soil. I then raked it a couple of times to get the last of the little weeds and hilled up a couple of rows.

I had a tall glass of ice water out there and stayed hydrated. I then looked around and decided that the inside area of my fenced garden needed mowing, so after cutting the grass, I got out the weed whip and trimmed everything along the fence. By that time I needed a shower and went to the house. Actually I needed that shower after the first five minutes of pulling weeds.

After the shower I went back out, put away all the tools and then headed over to the new lot next door and started cutting brush with a nipper and loaded the truck for a trip to the land-fill tomorrow. So, it is now evening and like I said, I'm fried and can not think about writing anything. In fact, going to bed sounds just wonderful. Florida is great, and North Florida is the best part of the state. However, there is one draw-back, and that is the summers. I almost forgot that every afternoon at about 3 there is a short hard rain. The rain is nice to walk in because, unlike Minnesota, it is a warm rain. But when the rain is over, the ground almost steams. Roadways and parking lots do steam, and the humidity spikes.

I believe we have about five more weeks of this really hot weather. I do need to put up a hammock with an electric fan pointed at it up on the deck I have for the tree house. That would be a lot better idea than playing in the dirt or cutting down brush. I think tomorrow, I'll play in the house.
