It Looks Like We Are Teaching Them Our Way

President Obama has told us that the war is over for American troops in Iraq and that our combat troops are home. He went on to explain the mission of the remaining troops is to teach the Iraqi Army how to defend the country. Well, it looks like that is what American troops are doing, and they are training the Iraqis to fight the same way our troops did.

Here is how the New York Times explains it:

BAGHDAD — Seven Iraqi civilians were killed near the western city of Falluja on Wednesday during an early morning raid conducted by American and Iraqi security forces, officials said.

Four of the dead were brothers between the ages of 10 and 18, according to the Iraqi police and residents of the area.

The United States military in Iraq said in an e-mail on Wednesday afternoon that the Iraqi military had "planned and led" the "joint counterterrorism" operation.

The raid underscored the continuing presence of American service members in security operations, even after the United States declared an official end to combat on Aug. 31. An American military spokeswoman Wednesday directed inquiries to the government of Iraq.

I imagine that with our troops out of their combat role, they stood by and watched the Iraqi troops kill these civilians. Then they probably corrected them by pointing out that ten year old children really shouldn't be killed, as it is a bad publicity move. I'm sure they pointed out the fact if you are going to kill children, you should first make sure there are no cameras or witnesses around to record the fact.

It will take a few years, but with the help and leadership of American troops as instructors, the Iraqi Army will be able to kill whomever it wants with impunity. At that point, we will be able to bring all our troops home.
