You Never Know

A person should try and stay alert most of the time these days. Here in Madison, Florida, today a 63 year old man was beaten to death in the parking lot of the County Health Department where he was going to pick up medicine.

Last week I read about a man who was stabbed repeatedly because he said "no" when asked for money by a panhandler. I took a concealed weapons class here in Florida, and the instructor told us about a home invasion where a retired minister and his elderly wife were badly beaten.

I hate to sound all doom and gloom here, but times have changed in America, and you really should pay attention. I hear it every day, about how Americans would be so much better off if we would all get rid of our guns. The truth is, criminals will always have guns, and they would be oh so happy to know that nobody else did.

I am not saying you should be walking guard duty at your home 24/7, but I am saying pay attention. When you come in for the night, lock you doors. Somebody drives into your yard, be proactive, and step outside and see what they want. Don't look or act meek.

I personally think it is a good idea to have a loaded gun around. Sure, if there are young kids in the home you have to think about that, but when I was growing up, my dad had several guns, and I knew they were his, and I don't believe I ever entertained the thought of messing with any of them.

You have to decide what is best for you and your family. However, I think it is a good idea no matter what you come up with for you to talk to your family about the dangers in 21st century America, and to teach your children how they can grow up safe.
