Well, Shame On Us

Remember the ads with the little African kid? He had a distended stomach and had flies crawling on his face, and they pulled on your heart strings to get money for famine relief?

Well, now it is the singer Trace Atkins with a wounded vet saying if it weren't for the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT he probably would have committed suicide when he came home from the war. They then show vets, both male and female, with missing limbs. They are looking for donations, and for just $19.95 a month you can help these wounded veterans. Oh, and get this, they will give you a bonus of a Wounded Warrior Blanket. Now is that tacky or what?

Tacky or not, it is shame on America that we have to stoop that low to help our veterans, while our politicians in Washington, the politicians who started these wars, live like royalty and refuse to fund the care these veterans need.

Try calling a VA hospital or clinic if you are a Veteran looking for help. You think you might kill yourself? Well, don't call the VA unless you have a pencil and paper handy, because you are going to get a recording with a number to call. Like any other American corporation it takes a while and a lot of patience before you can talk to a live person at the VA, and when you finally do get one, it will be an operator that can transfer your call if you know the extension. There is just nobody there to really help you.

I know this Wounded Warrior Project probably started out with all good intentions, and I am sure they do help veterans, but it galls me to see people on TV actually begging and pulling at America's heart strings in order to get the money needed to take care of our veterans. Then a little while later you will see some Politician like John McCain telling us we should be bombing Syria, and others are talking about taking on Iran.

We borrow money so we can kill people, and we give huge profits to the Defense Industry, but we have to go on television and beg the American people to take care of our veterans.

Shame on us!
