So, Do You Think Anything Will Change?

Well, we had an election, and Barack Obama is still President. The Democrats still have control of the Senate, and the Republicans still control the House. So, I don't see much chance things will change. Do you?

Most Republicans signed a pledge not to raise taxes, and I know every one of them remembers what happened to the first President Bush, who said, "Read my lips, no new taxes." Well that George Bush raised taxes, and that was the end of his political career. I can't see this group of Republicans going back on their no new tax pledge. Can you?

All during the campaign President Obama talked about how he would raise taxes on the rich. One could say it was the center-piece of his campaign. I can't see Barack Obama now deciding that those rich Americans don't need to pitch in a bit more of their wealth to the government. Can you?

It looks to me like we are going to remain in gridlock. How about you?

Maybe gridlock is not such a bad thing. About a year ago Congress and the President kicked the can down the road so they would not have to make tough budget decisions before the election. They put together all sorts of cuts to the military and nonmilitary discretionary spending, and it is called, "Sequestration" by some or the "Fiscal Cliff" by others.

If the Democrats and Republicans can't agree on how to fix our continued spending spree in Washington, these huge spending cuts are going to take effect January 1, 2013. I don't see these two political groups agreeing on anything, and I don't think that is so bad. It might even wake up the American people. Huge military cuts will not harm our security as we will still be spending many times more on our military Defense/Offense that any other country. In fact probably more than the rest of the world combined.

Yes, there will also be cuts in social programs, but more than likely they will be cuts, not on what is spent now, but cuts on increases in spending over the next decade.

We are $16 trillion in debt now, and we are going to pass that debt off to our children and their children even if we start cutting now. I would call that child abuse, but most political types from both political parties would rather keep right on spending and to hell with the kids.

So, if nothing gets done, and these huge cuts are put in place, I say great! I believe it is the only way anything will really get done. How about you?
