Short Takes

Lucky George

Things were looking bad for Karl Rove, with the charges that he was the leak at the White House, who gave out the identity of an American CIA undercover agent, but George had him covered.

When things started getting real hot for Karl, George pulled out his ace in the hole and took his buddy Karl off the front page by naming John Roberts (Who?) as his pick for the Supreme Court. Roberts is an unknown, and the media had to stop looking at Rove, and start digging, to see what and who John Roberts is.

Added bonus for Bush, nobody is even asking who forged the Niger Yellow Cake, papers.

Freedom for Iraq?

There is a draft of Iraq's new constitution out and if this draft is adopted, freedom will not be included. From the New York Times, "Equal rights for women as long as those rights do not 'violate Shariah' or Koranic law."

"Article 14 would replace a body of Iraqi law that has for decades been considered one of the most progressive in the Middle East in protecting the rights of women, giving them the freedom to choose a husband and require divorce cases to be decided by a judge."

After Bush gets through with Iraq, women there could lose many of the rights they had under Saddam Hussein.

Troops Won't Be Coming Home Any Time Soon

From a new Pentagon report, "Only 'a small number' of Iraqi forces are capable of fighting the insurgency without American assistance, while about one-third of the army is capable of 'planning, executing, and sustaining counterinsurgency operations' with allied support."

American Troops Are Not Cheering In Iraq

Associated Press Military Writer, Robert Burns, "A majority of U.S. soldiers in Iraq say moral is low, according to an Army report that finds psychological stress is weighing particularly heavily on National Guard and Reserve troops."

America Under Bush

About all George Bush can say for his time in office, is that he is a "War President." Several times Bush has said that in public, with pride, like that is some sort of an accomplishment. On top of being a War President, he has also been a Spending President and a Borrowing President, but he never talks about that. He never talks about Osama bin Laden either.

Under George Bush we have gone from the Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free, to a country that is obsessed with fear and security. A land willing to trade its freedom for the promise of safety, with the PATRIOT ACT,

George Bush will go down in history, I hope our country doesn't go down with him.
