No One Is Going to Make God Do Anything
by James Glaser
I know it is hard to believe, but there are groups of Christians in America who believe if they can control how things work out in the Middle East, get Israel to rebuild a temple on the spot that Muslims have mosque (Dome of the Rock built in 684 AD), find a red heifer, and get a few other things done, well then Jesus Christ will be forced to come back down here. What they want is Armageddon. There is one flaw in their thinking, and that is the fact that even Jesus has no idea of when his return is scheduled for. Jesus says in Matthew 24:36 "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels in heaven, but my Father only." If you stay in that chapter and go back to verse 24, Jesus gives a real hint about what is going on right now. "For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." This week 3,500 evangelical Christians descended on Washington to make sure that Congress and the White House would continue to back Israel. Majorie Cohn, writing for Common Dreams explains, "Yet during the Bush administration, from 2001 to 2005, Israel received $10.5 billion in Foreign Military Financingthe Pentagon's biggest military aid program$6.3 billion in US arms deliveries. Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign military assistance." Surprise Surprise! The Rev. Jerry Falwell was the leader of the Virginia delegation, and Gary Bauer the religious extremist who helps get certain Indian tribes their casino (for about $1.5 million) was there twisting arms of our Congressman and women. These right wing Christians are going to do their best to make Jesus do what they want, and if that takes killing every Muslim in the Middle East, that is OK with them. After all, they think they are doing God's work It doesn't matter who you are in the Middle East. Jew, Christian, or Muslim. . . they all think they are doing God's work. They must all believe God wants them to kill and kill and kill. |
