If You Are Anti-war, It is Time to Walk Away From the Democrats

From the New York Times, "Washington, May 22 — Congressional Democrats relented today on their insistence that a war spending measure sought by President Bush also set a date for withdrawing troops from Iraq. The decision to back down, described by senior lawmakers and aides, was a wrenching reversal for some Democrats, who saw their election triumph as a call to force an end to the war."

Last November it was pretty much universally accepted that the Democrats took control of both Houses of Congress, because of the nation's dissatisfaction with George Bush's War in Iraq. There is little doubt that almost every anti-war voter backed the Democrats, thinking that their campaign rhetoric had some amount of truth behind it, but we now know it was another example of Washington spin.

The sad truth is that both Democrat and Republican politicians are more worried about the next election, than they are about honoring the promises they made during the last election. Also we have the age old problem of our elected officials being bought off with campaign funds, and the military industrial sector of our economy knows how to spread the money around to both parties.

Right now there is only one true anti-war candidate, and that would be, surprise surprise, a Republican. Not only does Representative Ron Paul stand up during a national Republican debate, and tell his Party that Bush's war is wrong, but the man put his money where his mouth was, and voted against giving Bush the power to start the war in the first place. As a bonus, Mr. Paul also voted against the Patriot Act, against regulating the Internet, and increasing the power of the executive branch of our government.

So, if you are sick of Americans and Iraqis dying in George Bush's war, if you think this war is hurting our country, if you want our troops to come home now, then you are going to have to walk away from the Democrats. If you need to belong to a Party that is truly anti-war, then you will have to sign up with the Libertarians. If what you need is a strong honest Major Party candidate, who is anti-war war like you are, then as of right now, your only choice is Ron Paul.
