One Of The Things Wrong With Us
by James Glaser July 3, 2007 A few weeks ago somebody wrote to me with the complaint that I had the National Review as a link in the section of my web page that lists the "Sites I Visit." The web pages listed can be clicked on, and they then pop up for you to read. The man who wrote thought it was just awful that I would even read the National Review. Well, I have to admit that Jonah Goldberg and Charles Krauthammer, both prolific writers for the Review sometimes drive me nuts, but then some of the writers on the Common Dreams News Center site, also listed, can drive me crazy, too. The problem is, if you want to see where American opinion is going, you have to look to both the right and the left, and both of these two sites have a few columns that head a bit toward the center. Of course the Review's columns are right of center and Common Dreams tends to be left of center. That is a problem with our country, people who read the Wall Street Journal probably don't read the New York Times. Those who watch Fox News, seldom turn on CNN. We are divided in our political beliefs, and we are divided in our sources of information. Really, the "Sites I Visit" page on my web site is set up for me, as would you believe it, these are sites I like to read, and having them linked in one spot makes it easy for me to find them. There is a great link to the Constitution of the United States. This link makes it easy to look up which section of the Constitution the Bush administration is attacking any time you want. I also have the U.S. Senate and The U.S. House of Representatives listed. That way if I want to e-mail a politician in Washington or call them, or better yet, write them a personal letter, I can look up their address or phone number. The rest of the sites listed are all interesting, and they swing from left to right. There are many more web pages that I look at, but for some reason the ones on this page interested me at one time over the years, or still do. I don't cull, I just add to the list every so often. Post Script: President Bush commuted Scooter Libby's prison sentence last night. He said he wouldn't do that as long as the appeal case was going forward. It looks like the President lied to us again. It must be OK to lie in court if you are a member of the Bush administration. If Scooter could be punished for his lies, then you would think George Bush could be punished for his. Now George must feel safer. |
