These Words Will Make You Think of the Future
by James Glaser July 6, 2009 I was getting ready for the weekend and stopped at the bank to get some cash. Rather than going in and writing out a check, I went to the ATM. Here are the words I saw on the screen. We're sorry for the inconvenience. I was lucky, the lobby was still open and I went in and wrote that check and got the money I needed. However, that made me think. What happens if someday no ATM's work, and the banks, for what ever reason, shut down for a spell. Most Americans would be in big trouble. It makes you think about the future and what kind of "cash stash" should you have tucked away, and where should you put it? Not many people use paper checks any more. Today, credit cards and debit cards are the main thing used. Do you ever get the feeling that with all the plastic we use, and the automatic deposit of our pay check, and debits to our account for the utility bill, the car payment, and the mortgage they just might be trying to get us away from real green folding money? If Washington can do that, they have us. You don't turn all your guns, your access to your accounts are shut down. No money and no plastic puts you in a bad spot. What can you do then? Makes you think, huh? |
