Barack Obama Is Not As Sharp As We Thought

It was just a few weeks ago that the President was talking about Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Now this week we are back on his Health Care Bill, and jobs, the one thing that is on everyone's mind has faded into the background. Yes, I know the Senate just passed a 15 billion dollar Jobs Bill, but that was a bill that had been pared down from 155 billion. Also, it is mostly tax incentives to get employers to hire. Even the Senate is talking about a measly 250,000 jobs if everything works the way they want.

The problem is that we need 10,000,000 jobs just to get back to where we were two years ago, and probably another 2.5 million to employ the new people coming into the job market since the recession hit.

So the Senate Jobs Bill falls short by 12.25 million or 12,250,000 jobs. Think about that number and the families and children that it represents, and the rent payments, and the grocery bills. Think about it.

Meanwhile, Congress is not talking about getting more people back to work, but is talking about extending jobless benefits for millions and millions of out of work Americans. I guess you can say that people can exist on unemployment checks, but that is it. They exist, and they exist while being under a lot of stress (which affects their health). People on unemployment use up their savings, and then they can lose their homes, they can't afford college for their kids, and if their car breaks down, they are in deep trouble.

So, tomorrow, the President is going to spend the day talking to the Republicans, not about jobs, but health care. He is not going to talk about trying to get everyone health care, because his proposal leaves out 21 million of the uninsured. In stead, President Obama is going to talk about passing something, anything, just so he does not look like a total failure.

It doesn't take a brilliant man to figure out that with so many Americans out of work, and with millions having lost their homes already or facing foreclosure in the near future, getting people back to work should be our government's main focus.

President Obama, by all accounts is a brilliant man, but for some reason he is putting his legacy before the good of the people who elected him. That is not very smart.
