President Obama has told us that the war is over for American troops in Iraq and that our combat troops are home. He went on to explain the mission of the remaining troops is to teach the Iraqi Army how to defend the country. Well, it looks like that is what American troops are doing, and they are training the Iraqis to fight the same way our troops did. Here is how the New York Times explains it:
I imagine that with our troops out of their combat role, they stood by and watched the Iraqi troops kill these civilians. Then they probably corrected them by pointing out that ten year old children really shouldn't be killed, as it is a bad publicity move. I'm sure they pointed out the fact if you are going to kill children, you should first make sure there are no cameras or witnesses around to record the fact. It will take a few years, but with the help and leadership of American troops as instructors, the Iraqi Army will be able to kill whomever it wants with impunity. At that point, we will be able to bring all our troops home. |
