So Disappointing

There was a little notice in the local paper about a Tea Party meeting at a local restaurant on Saturday at noon. I decided to give it a try. I am totally burned out by both the Republican and Democratic parties, so I thought that maybe this Tea Party movement would have something to offer.

It didn't.

In fact, it didn't take long for me to figure out that it was a front for the local Republican Party. The first thing talked about was how they had gotten the list of all the Independent voters in the county, and how they were sending a letter out to all of them trying to get them to join the local Republican Party.

I have to admit I didn't stay for the whole meeting. I don't mind people who disagree with the way Barack Obama is running our country, in fact I don't want him reelected, but I don't hate the guy. I believe he is being honest with how openly he is trying to get our country to go Socialist. It is not like he is trying to sneak it in. Obama is pretty up front with it.

Here I was under the allusion that the Tea Party was all about smaller government and paying off our debt so we would not be leaving it to our children. If there were people who had that for their main goal, they were not sitting around me. I was very disappointed that everything talked about was this Republican or that Republican, or how bad that Democrat was.

When I was growing up, my parents often canceled out each other's vote, my dad voting Republican and my mother voting Democrat. I still remember them talking about their candidate, but I don't remember them saying bad things about the other's choice. It always ended up a policy choice for each.

We seem to have lost that. Now people argue that the opposing candidate is trying to destroy America. I don't buy that. I think President Obama is trying to do what he thinks and his advisors and backers think is best. I don't agree with them, but that does not make them evil people in my mind, just people making the wrong choice in what our country should do.

We have gotten to the point that each side of the political spectrum hates the other side, and because of that there can be no cooperation between the two sides any more. I don't see this animosity changing and time soon, in fact I see it only getting worse.

That is why this Tea Party meeting disappointed me so much. I was looking for a third idea, maybe something that the other two parties could grab hold of. Now I think the Republicans have grabbed hold, but a little too tight, and they are trying to take the Tea Party over—heck maybe they have.

So, I'll stay independent and vote for the Republican or Democrat of my choice, or even a third party candidate. If all the Independents got behind a third party candidate, that third party candidate would be a shoe in. That sounds pretty interesting doesn't it?
